Plans for the Upcoming FOCUS 50th Gala

All FOCUS Churches supporters are invited to the Gala Dinner for our 50th Anniversary.

Saturday, October 28, at 5 pm. We will gather at St Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd (between Manning Blvd and New Scotland) in Albany.

An Honorary Committee is forming, led by Rev. Bob Lamar retired Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Albany and a founding pastor of FOCUS Churches and former Roman Catholic Bishop Howard Hubbard. Lamar and Hubbard knew each other and worked together on numerous ecumenical projects that aimed to help the poor in the Capital District, beginning with issues in the South End in the 1960s, when Hubbard was the head of Trinity Alliance.

Reverend Lamar has received numerous awards, including: an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Centre College; the From Fear to Friendship Award from Bishop Howard Hubbard of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany in 2002; and the inaugural Interfaith Alliance Humanitarian Award from the Interfaith Alliance of the Capital District, now known as The Robert Lamar Humanitarian Award. He was also given an honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Letters, by Siena College.

Bishop Hubbard, became the ninth and longest-serving Bishop of Albany, well known for his ecumenical and interfaith outreach, as well as his devotion to social justice for all.
